Opening Ceremony
The Cleopatra Ballroom at the Opening Ceremony was full with conference delegates. At the front row among others Prof. Ian Masser, Jack Dangermond, Preetha Pulusani and Prof. Harlan Onsrud.	The first joint FIG/GSDI Conference attracted good attendance from Egypt and the Arab countries as well as from other international associations like Prof. Milan Konecny, President of ICA and next to him Prof. Hans Sünkel, University of Graz, one of the keynote speakers.
Prof. Fraser Taylor, President of the ISCGM and FIG Hororary President Robert Foster at the opening ceremony.	The cultural entertainment at the opening ceremony was provided by an Egyptian military band.

VIP guests listening the traditional FIG fanfare at the opening ceremony. These included Harland Onsrud, GSDI new President, Preetha Pulusani (Intergraph) and Jack Dangermond (ESRI)...	... as well as Prof. Ian Dowman, President of ISPRS and Mr. Jarmo Ratia, who was elected in Cairo as the new President Elect of GSDI.
The speakers at the opening ceremony were also listening the FIG fanfare.
Dr. Dalal Alnaggar, Conference Coordinator of FIG/GSDI Conference welcomed all participants to Cairo...	... who were also welcomed by Dr. Dr. Eng. Ahmed Fouad El-Sheikh, Chair of the LOC and President of the ECSM.
Greetings from Dr. Tarek Kamel, Minister of Communication and Information Technology were presented by Dr. Hora Baraka.	The keynote presentations included a presentation of Dr. Mukund Rao, President of GSDI...
... Prof. Holger Magel, FIG President whose keynote presentation was titled From Pharaohs to Geoinformatics – Shaping the Change.	The Conference was supported by the Egyptian government under the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. Minister Dr. Mahmoud Abu Zeid gave also a welcome address at the opening ceremony.
President Magel gave to the Minister Dr. Mahmoud Abu Zeid the official FIG President's gift.	Dr. Dalal Alnaggar to gether with President Rao and President Magel after the opening ceremony.

After the official opening of the conference by President Magel...	... a welcome reception was organised at the pool area of the Semiramis Hotel to which more than 600 participants attended.
