Morning departure from Accra to the Shai Game Reserve, home to several animals such as antelopes, monkeys and baboons. An expanse of savannah grassland and woodland. Shai Hills Resource Reserve was established in 1962 with area of 47 square kilometres which was later extended to 51 square kilometres in 1973. The Shai Hills Resource Reserve is covered with grassland and low dry forest vegetation. There are nearly 400 plant species spread on the 5 separate hills at the Shai Hills Resource Reserve and dozens of primary animal species including antelopes, bats, birds (such as violet Turaco, Paradise Flycatcher, Green Turaco Red-billed Hornbill, Yellow-fronted Tinkerbird, and Red-necked Buzzard), baboons, cats, duiker, guinea fowls, kobs, green monkeys, monitor lizards, zebras. |

The garden has had many roles over the years, including plant introduction, teaching methods of modern agriculture. Today, the garden plays an important role as one of the world's 1,800 botanical gardens, and is leading the fight to save plant diversity through, research, conservation of medicinal plants, plant multiplication, and environmental education. |
